2010 Peak to Peak Walk

See the city like never before! On Peak to Peak, you'll discover hidden stairways and explore new paths while raising funds to make San Francisco a safer, better place to walk.

New route for 2010!

This is the sixth annual Peak to Peak, but we've got a whole new route! The new “North by Northwest” route will start in the heart of the Mission and head though the stairways, trails and quiet streets of Bernal Heights and Glen Park, then climb up Glen Canyon and across the high spine of the city. Once we’ve concluded our morning climb of the highest peaks in the city, we’ll reward ourselves with a delicious lunch served in a peaceful meadow on Mt. Sutro. 

After lunch, we’ll descend into the Sunset along little-known new trails, and take in stunning views as we head northwest though the peaks of Parnassus, Golden Gate Park, and the Richmond. Finally, at Land’s End, we’ll conclude our trek and celebrate our accomplishment high above the ocean.

This challenging 13+-mile walk (that’s a half marathon!) will climb and ascend some 10 peaks of various sizes and notoriety, with more than a few surprises for all.

All participants will be entered in a raffle for some fabulous prizes. Participants can also win additional prizes by asking friends and family to sponsor their walk -- everyone who raises more than $100 wins a prize, and the top fundraisers will choose prizes first!

Lunch and guides are provided along the walk, which will end at Land’s End in the late afternoon. Some of us will certainly head on to the Park Chalet for some celebratory beer and food.

Walkers should use sunblock. Bring hats, a warm layer as needed, and of course, wear comfortable shoes. Water is available along the route, so water bottle(s) are highly recommended. This is an urban walk, so coffee and snack stops are available en route.

Getting there and away:

The start of the walk is at the plaza at 24th and Mission Streets, just outside the BART station. The plaza can also be reached by Muni lines 12,14, 48, and 49.

Walkers can easily return downtown by transit at the end of the walk on the 38-Geary bus, or walk on a bit to the 5-Fulton and N-Judah. The morning route is fixed, but there are options in the afternoon to skip a few minor peaks, or shorten the route with transit.

If you need to drive, parking is available in the Mission or downtown where you can use BART and Muni to close a loop back to your vehicle. Of course taking transit makes the city even more walkable, so please consider this first. No transport is included as part of the walk, but everyone will be glad to show you the way back on Muni.
